Why Cold Moon? The Story Behind Our Handmade Ritual Candles

There is a personal reason behind the name Cold Moon Candle Co. The Cold Moon is a name for December’s full moon, and December is my birth month. That connection gave the name a place in the story before it became the name on a candle.

Light in the long nights

A moon name is a way of noticing a season. For me, Cold Moon brings together the natural world and the light we choose to bring into our own spaces. A candle on an altar can be a small detail, but the act of choosing it, placing it, and lighting it gives that detail meaning.

That is the thread running through the collection. Simple tapers, raised wildflowers, sculpted forms, and autumn fragrances each offer a different way to make a space feel like your own.

Nature, shaped in wax

The natural world appears here in the materials as well as the designs. Some candles are made with pure beeswax; others use soy or a beeswax and soy blend. Scented candles use a coconut and soy wax blend. The wax is named in each listing so you can choose with a clear understanding of what you are bringing home.

A lavender sprig taper carries the shape of lavender, without added lavender fragrance. Wildflower tapers bring two different floral designs together in one pair. Those distinctions are part of the craft, and part of the story I want to share here.

The making matters

Cold Moon Candle Co. candles are hand-poured in small batches in NJ, using materials sourced from local and small businesses. Supporting independent suppliers and working toward a smaller carbon footprint are part of the intention behind that sourcing.

The work includes pouring, testing, and refining. A beautiful shape matters, and so does understanding how to care for it when it is lit.
